EV charging product launched

Recharge Rescue has developed a product, which can be sold via brokers, to help EV drivers if they run out of power.

Recharge Rescue has launched a roadside assistance insurance policy which provides electric vehicle users with the security of a timely roadside charge should they run out of electricity mid-journey or arrive at a public charging point to discover that it’s not operational.

Backed by the strength of an A-rated insurer, the policy has been designed to sit alongside and complement a traditional vehicle breakdown insurance policy by ensuring there is no duplication of coverage.

The fully automated, online policy sale and administration system, allows reseller partners such as insurance brokers, vehicle manufacturers and leasing companies, to secure cover in under two minutes. The policy provides 24/7 response through a national network of mobile, fast chargers, to enable the insured driver to continue their journey without the inconvenience and expense of their vehicle being recovered.

Vehicles are given 30 minutes of roadside charging which, depending upon the make and model, will result in between 10 and 15 miles of range. Recharge Rescue ensures that there is sufficient charge for the insured driver to reach a fixed charging point.

Environment

Bruce Compton, managing director of Recharge Rescue said: “One of the most common concerns for drivers considering the purchase of their first electric vehicle, is range anxiety; Recharge Rescue confronts and deals with that concern head on, providing a solution to re-charge any electric vehicle, anywhere, anytime, through an insurance policy that safeguards drivers against being stranded for lengthy periods, without charge.”

He continued: “With the adoption of electric vehicles playing such an important part of meeting global goals on climate change, I can’t think of a more relevant time than now to launch Recharge Rescue. It feels good to be providing an insurance product that will play a part in empowering businesses to take the leap towards positive environmental change”

To register as partners, businesses complete the application form on the Recharge Rescue website and sign the terms of business agreement, to obtain access to the Recharge Rescue portal. From the portal, insurance partners can process individual or fleet quotes with the system creating FCA compliant documentation and allowing for monthly premium settlement. For those businesses that aren’t FCA authorised, RR offers a referral model which still enables these partners to introduce their customers to the policy whilst generating income.

All private car or commercial electric vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of up to 3.5 tonnes, which are not being used for hire and reward purposes, are eligible for cover under the Recharge Rescue policy.
