Zurich UK has moved to strengthen its relationships with brokers by opening a regional office in Chelmsford to service the East Anglia area.

The addition means the provider now has a specialist broker service across ten regions.

According to Zurich, the Chelmsford office will create up to 11 jobs for specialist underwriters as the business grows.

The office will be housed in a ‘We Work’ space which, Zurich argued, gives the business more flexibility to scale and adapt according to the needs of employees in the coming years.

The insurer detailed that Nick Barratt has been recruited a broker relationship manager in the East Anglia team listing that he has experience of the region, having spent over a decade with RSA as well as brands such as Axa and Aviva.

The provider committed that four more underwriters with a spread of expertise will join the team in the coming weeks.

Growth strategy

Sam Thomas, head of mid-market at Zurich UK commented: “Regional brokers are an essential part of our growth strategy in the Zurich Retail business, and we recognise the value and importance of local trading and relationships.

“To support our regional brokers and their clients, we want to give them access to local, empowered decision makers with a desire to trade, a broad appetite, and a strong customer centric proposition with fast responses. These are all key pillars of the Zurich regional mid-market proposition.”

Thomas added: “With the opening of Chelmsford, we now span ten regions across the country. To support this, we are hiring new talented individuals with both distribution and underwriting expertise, authority, relationships, and knowledge of the area. This will enable us to put our local growth plans into action and ensure that our proposition remains accessible for our brokers.”

Zurich listed that it already has bespoke regional broker offices in Croydon, Manchester, Cardiff, Glasgow and Belfast with over 500 employees across ten regions.
