Superscript partners with Amazon on business insurance

Amazon

The insurtech start-up says Amazon Business Prime customers will have access to covers including public liability, employers’ liability, professional indemnity, cyber, directors and officers, and office contents & equipment insurance.

Insurtech start-up Superscript has partnered with Amazon Business to provide insurance for UK micro and small businesses, as well as sole traders, through Amazon membership programme Business Prime.

Superscript stated that the partnership is a response to the changing needs of UK SMEs following the pandemic.

It detailed that its technology and underwriting expertise will streamline the insurance-buying process for UK Business Prime members, with customers receiving customised insurance in under ten minutes.

According to Superscript, cover is available on a monthly subscription basis and can be amended or managed at any time in its online customer portal.

Covers
It explained that available covers include public liability insurance, employers’ liability insurance, professional indemnity insurance, cyber insurance, directors and officers insurance, and office contents & equipment insurance.

The partnership follows similar developments in Amazon’s US operations. Business Prime has previously partnered with US-based Next Insurance to provide flexible business insurance for its US members.

Cameron Shearer, co-founder and CEO of Superscript, said: “This partnership is a huge step in the evolution of business insurance. The industry needs to bridge the divide between insurers and customers by providing a quick, smooth buying process that is customer-centric. This means digital-first, flexible and monthly.

“We are therefore delighted to partner with Amazon Business to provide this much needed service for SMEs, and to stand alongside leading tech companies which understand what SMEs need.”

Amazon
The move follows years of speculation around what Amazon is going to do in the insurance industry. The tech giant has already dipped its toe into the water with its warranty cover product, Amazon Protect.

In 2018 it was reported that Amazon was considering launching a UK price comparison site and it has also been flagged that it was “working with” UK insurers and brokers. It has been suggested that the business is mainly looking at the home insurance market.

Amazon has also invested $12m (£9m) into Mumbai-based Insurtech start-up Acko Technologies.
