Gallagher bolsters claims team with senior appointment

Gallagher has appointed Phil Daly as claims director for its UK retail division.

Daly brings over 30 years of operations and claims experience and has recently worked with Hastings Direct and spent 20 years at Zurich.

In his new role, he will oversee all of Gallagher’s UK retail claims operations, working closely with its existing regional claims teams. He will report to chief operating officer, Michelle Bree.

Bree commented: “Phil brings a wealth of experience in claims transformation and as the size and breadth of our business continues to grow, we want to ensure the end-to-end service we provide our clients continues to evolve.”

Markel International names managing director of distribution strategies and business development

Markel International has named Dan Martin as managing director of distribution strategies and business development.

Martin takes on the role from Pat Murphy-O’Connor who will transition to a consultancy capacity ahead of his retirement at the end of 2022.

He will be based in Markel’s London office and report to Andrew McMellin, managing director of wholesale at Markel International.

Martin said: “Markel’s DS&BD in the wholesale division has been going from strength-to-strength under Pat’s exceptional leadership, and I am looking forward to working with Andrew and the team on the next phase of its evolution. Markel is known as a leader in most of its classes and to operate with a culture that prioritises integrity and respect, which provides the right backdrop to achieve its ambitious strategic goals.”

William Bruce joins Aon to lead climate risk consulting

Aon has recruited William Bruce as global managing director, climate risk consulting in Aon Global Risk Consulting.

Bruce joined the firm on 15 August reporting to Richard Waterer, global risk consulting leader for Aon commercial risk solutions.

Waterer commented: “Supporting our clients’ climate transition journey and mitigating climate-related risks remains a core priority for Aon. I am delighted to welcome William to the team to bolster our offering and to help clients take an analytical-based approach to the identification, modelling and management of climate risk.”

QBE expands UK financial lines offering with regional appointment

QBE has added Gill Rhodes as regional underwriting manager.

In the newly created role, Rhodes will be responsible for QBE’s financial lines products regionally, with particular focus on professional indemnity, management liability and cyber.

She joins from Chubb and brings 20 years of financial lines underwriting experience to the role. She will report to Andy Fitzgerald, director of UK regions and will be based in QBE’s Leeds office.

Fitzgerald commented: “We’re delighted to have someone of Gill’s calibre joining the team. She will play a pivotal role in growing our financial lines business in regional markets in the UK as part of our overall growth plan.”
