County Group buys North Wales broker

County Insurance director Alastair Christopherson

GRP’s County Group has acquired broker Business Insurance Specialist for an undisclosed sum.

The Llandudno-based broker’s staff, including the directors, will continue with the business and the office will remain open.

BIS is a commercial broker that specialises in insurance for the motor trade and construction.

County’s CEO Alastair Christopherson said the transaction, which has received regulatory approval, is an excellent addition to County’s portfolio which will enhance the Group’s presence in North Wales.

Christopherson commented on the BIS buy: “This deal is the fifth we have completed this year and demonstrates our ambition to grow through acquisition as well as organically. BIS is a well-respected local business, and we welcome Roger Stevens (MD), fellow director Andrew Halstead and their team to the Group.”

Managing director at BIS, Roger Stevens, said he was confident that Country Group will prove to be the best possible custodian for the business, people and clients.

He added: “We fully intend to take advantage of the additional firepower provided by County and GRP to enhance the products and services we provide our clients and achieve substantial further growth for the business under new ownership.”

Christopherson stated that he remained keen to talk to vendors who are considering their exit options or looking to accelerate growth as part of a larger group.

Wales

In April this year, the broker bought Wales-based Archenfield Insurance Management, which marked the first buy since the £1.48bn takeover of the consolidator by US giant Brown & Brown.

At the start of March County also purchased the business and assets of Cardiff-based community broker PG Insurance.

County Group made its third deal of the year with Leicester-based broker Marsh and Co, and its MGA Ginger Markets, in May.
