Apollo partners with Moonrock on drone facility

Apollo will be providing capacity to Moonrock Drone Insurance for a facility designed to provide cover for larger commercial drone operations.

Moonrock’s new facility, available through brokers, sits alongside its Hiscox-backed offering.

The specialist drone broker started wholesaling the Hiscox-underwritten policy for smaller commercial operations in 2018, having teamed up with the provider in 2016.

Moonrock was founded by Simon Ritterband. It delivers drone cover, including for fleets, across multiple industries such as film and TV, agriculture and construction.

Potential

Ritterband said: “If the drone industry is to unlock its full potential, and hit the growth targets estimated to be £45bn by 2030 and upwards of half a million new jobs, then the support and backing from such seasoned aviation insurance professionals is vitally important.”

Martin Jackson, head of aviation at Apollo, stressed that the drone industry can offer environmental benefits, and is a keen area of focus for the UK government.

Jackson added: “We have been working intensively with Moonrock to create an insurance product that specifically caters for the growth of commercial drones, and we are pleased to be leading the way in underwriting this and other new risks in emerging industries.”
