JMG buys Premier Insurance

Deal

JMG Group has bought County Durham insurance broker Premier Insurance.

Established in 2001, Premier employs nine people at its base in Consett, handling both personal and commercial insurance and working with clients across the UK.

JMG Group was formed in 2020, when Nick Houghton and the existing management team, backed by Synova Capital, completed an MBO from the Glendinning family.

This year the group entered the Scottish market in April striking a joint-ownership arrangement with Greenwood Moreland and expanded further into Scotland buying GS Group in June.

Days later Greenwood Moreland bought R C McLeish Insurance Consultants in Lanark in its first purchase after joining JMG Group.

JMG, part of Insurance Age’s Top 75 brokers listing, also snapped up Newcastle-based insurance broker and risk management firm The Sphere Group in April as well as Northampton business Astute Insurance Solutions in March.

Appeal

After the latest deal Premier founder and managing director Gary Milburn will remain in post. He commented: “Part of the appeal of joining JMG was their commitment to growing the business.

“Becoming part of the group secures the future of the business for the whole team. Rather than being absorbed into a call centre or moved elsewhere, the team will stay exactly as it is, with me at the helm, with the added buying power and administrative support that comes with being part of a larger organisation. This will free up time in house which our team can use to focus on the continued growth of the firm.”

JMG Group CEO Nick Houghton said: “Gary has built an established, stable, and incredibly successful business and we see significant opportunities for it to continue to thrive as well as expanding into new product areas with the backing of the wider group.”
